Chancellor Jeremy Hunt says he will deliver the Spring Budget on March 6 - and he’s asking people and business groups for their suggestions on what he should say.

The Treasury announced on X, formerly Twitter, that he had commissioned the Office for Budget Responsibility to prepare an economic and fiscal forecast to be delivered alongside his key financial update.

It also announced that it had launched its Spring Budget representations portal so people can have their say on the announcement.

Mr Hunt and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak are starting to prepare the ground for the upcoming General Election, with Labour currently well ahead in the polls.

The Budget follows the Autumn Statement in November, when the Chancellor announced what he called the 'largest business tax cut in modern British history'.

His measures included making “full expensing” permanen t. That means all money a company invests in IT equipment, plant or machinery can immediately be deducted in full from taxable profit.

The Treasury says it welcomes comments on existing policy and suggestions for new policy. On the homepage of the “representations portal” launched today, it says: “ In order to inform policy development for the Budget, your representation should contain policy suggestions for the upcoming fiscal event and explain the policy rationale, costs, benefits and deliverability of proposals. It should also be evidence based, providing clear arguments on how it contributes to the aims of the Budget.”

Earlier this month the Chancellor spoke exclusively to BusinessLive while visiting Manchester - and insisted the Government was still committed to taking big decisions despite the political turmoil of recent months.
