Mears Group has announced the appointment Lucas Critchley as chief executive, taking over from David Miles.

Mr Miles announced his intention to retire from the Gloucester-headquartered firm in May 2022. Since the board has completed a transition that will see Mr Critchley take up the position in January 2024.

Mr Miles will remain on the senior management team of the housing and social care provider and will support the business over the medium term, with focus on key client engagement, operation support and driving commercial performance.

Mears Group has also announced Jim Clarke's appointment as chair and Nick Wharton's position as a non-executive director and chair of audit and risk committee. In addition, employee director Hema Nar has elected for her position to become a non-statutory appointment to enable her to focus on being a link between the board and workforce.

David's contribution to the development of Mears has been immense over many years and I am particularly pleased that he will continue to play an important role in the business going forward.
